Find the list of 2022’s best phones
Not only is it the manufacturer with the largest smartphone market share worldwide, latest numbers also show that South Korean phone maker Samsung topped the list of the most popular phone brands in Q2 2022 in terms of smartphone shipments.
Recent data on the top smartphone brands ranked by the number of shipments shows that Samsung shipped out 62.5 million of its smartphone units in Q2 2022. This is 8.5% more than the total number of phone shipments it made in Q2 2021. It also makes up 21% of the global smartphone shipments market share. In other words, more than one out of five smartphones delivered in Q2 2022 was manufactured by Samsung.
This is part of the company’s goal to grow its market share with the release of more 5G models. It’s hoping to ride on the wave of demand from consumers who are finally ready to replace their old devices as the effects of the pandemic wear off.
In second place, rival brand Apple shipped out 46.5 million smartphones in Q2 2022, a 4.9% annual decrease and a 16% market share. It is also the lowest number of smartphones the brand has sent out since Q3 2020.
Together, Samsung and Apple’s global smartphone shipments market share total 37%, which means that nearly one-third of all smartphones sent out in Q2 2022 were produced by these two companies.
Third on this list of top smartphone companies (by shipment) is Xiaomi, which shipped 39.5 million devices in Q2 2022. This represents a whopping 24.8% year-over-year decrease and is the quarter with the second-lowest amount of smartphones delivered in at least two years, after the 39 million recorded in Q1 2022.
Incidentally, just last year, the company reported record revenue growth of 64% in the second quarter of last year, during which it outperformed Apple to become the second-largest smartphone manufacturer.
The fourth-most popular phone brand is Oppo, with 28.2 million shipments in Q2 2022. This marks a 16.1% annual decrease, a significant decrease from last year’s numbers. Rounding out the list of the top smartphone brands is Vivo, which shipped 25.5 million devices, a 21.5% annual increase.
Of the five most popular phone brands, four are from Asia—specifically, China and South Korea. Apple is the only non-Asian brand to make the list.
